All Things New

How does anyone count the benefits of a vital relationship with Christ?

One benefit I celebrate today is the fact that in Christ we become a new creation.  The old passes away and out of the dead stuff in our past and inside us God brings something beautiful: life like we couldn’t have imagined.  God works our junk into good…into life (see Romans 8:28).  We become new creations made out of the material of our sin stained past.

You might have seen people with remnants of ash on their forehead from an Ash Wednesday service this week.  That ash is symbolizes the work of Christ to take the burnt debris of our life and resurrect life from it.  For many in the Christian world Ash Wednesday begins the time of preparation toward Easter.  As we begin to move toward Easter, I pray that we would focus on God’s work in us to make a new creation.  What a blessing.

Here are some questions that might help you:

  • As you look at your life, what seems like it is in ashes?
  • In what relationships, circumstances or situations have you lost hope?
  • Where do you feel a sense of discouragement?
  • As you ask these questions, read this verse and Romans 8:28 over and over again, letting it soak into you.  perhaps you might memorize them both as a discipline to prepare you for Easter.
