Road Trip B&W #1
The Yellowstone river just before entering the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone.
The first shot in B&W on Interstate 80 somewhere in Nevada.
This summer's road trip through National Parks in the Western US was remarkably surprising for the beauty that exceeded our expectations. Colors were vivid but there was something dramatic in the contrasts of the sweeping images.
The high contrast black and white pics started with this second picture on Interstate 80 with a whim. I was playing with my new Sony Alpha and saw this setting for the camera. I was wonderfully surprised by what I saw when the blues, grays and greens dropped away.
For the rest of the trip, I made sure to shoot some high contrast, monochrome shots in each national park and wherever it seemed that the colors might drown out the shapes.
